“The light, defined”
This poem explores the struggles of unconventional, often ostracised forms of love, and the use of religion to justify bigotry and judgement. As a writer coming from a south asian country, this is a very real struggle, and love here is often kept undercover while extreme, faux displays of religious worship and 'love' are praised. Religion is subverted and true love is lost. 'The light' we have in our lives, that is the love we feel for others, is made to be put in a box, and defined. This poem has religious themes, and is not meant to criticise religion itself but the way in which religion is manipulated to fit certain beliefs of certain people.
