Rubik's Cube Mosaic

Rubik's Cube Mosaic image
Since the early 2000s, the Rubik's cube has had a resurgence in popularity due to the presence of 'speedcubing' on social media: the act of solving the Rubik's cube and other twisty style puzzles as fast as possible. Although speedcubing is very technical, learning to solve the cube using the beginner's method is very simple, and we at the Rubik's Cube society think anyone can learn to solve one! We also want to show that art can still be made with something so associated with maths and algorithms. This is the Rubik's Cube society's mosaic made using 100 mini Rubik's Cubes! We created this mosaic by first creating our drawing on a 30x30 grid using a paint program. We then use another program to split the picture up into 3x3 sections, corresponding to faces of a Rubik's Cube. Then we're tasked with solving each cube to have a face the same as each 3x3 section.
